Winter work

Been a busy week kicking on with some of the planned winter work.

Drainage at 7th Approach-
Stripped turf off the whole of the approach and removed the top 6 inches of thatch and 'soil' if you could call it that! Exposed the main drain which was put in several years ago and checked to make sure it was clear and running. This provided its own problems as a section of this six inch pipe which runs close by to the tree line was completely blocked with fibrous roots. As a result of this we had to take this section out and replace with solid pipe which will stop this happening again in the future. Pictures show a section of this blocked pipe. Now that the main drain was running we dug out 4 laterals across the approach again proving troublesome due to clay soil base! You can also see the clay in pictures below. 80mm drainage pipe was then put in and connected to the main outlet then back filled with gravel. The whole approach was then covered with 6inches of sand/soil root zone and is now ready to turf.

Drainage at 6th Green-
The same procedure was carried out on a section of the 6th green that has been requiring some extra drainage. This smaller area didn't cause as many troubles and is well on its way to being completed.

Also included are some pictures of new ladies tee which was built before Christmas and is ready to be turfed.
